The One Show has the iconic Pencil award designed by George Lois and its logo later designed by COLLINS. The Art Directors Club’s Cube award was designed by Gene Federico in 1978, and the Type Directors Club’s seal with interlocking letterforms was created by Gerard Huerta. Each symbol carries decades of history and cultural weight.
The Young Ones Student Awards operate as an umbrella program encompassing ADC, TDC, and One Show competitions, allowing entrants to be recognized within specific disciplines while participating in the broader program. Despite this, the program had never established a logo of its own. I was tasked with finding a simple way to bring the three show icons together. Fortunately, these historic marks provided a clear starting point.
By leveraging the Pencil, the Cube, and the TDC seal, I developed a single dynamic geometric mark that unifies all three forms around a central “Y” for Young Ones. The identity both contains and reveals the individual competitions within, creating a system that adapts to each discipline while remaining fundamentally consistent.
