Originally commissioned by The New York Times, this cover was created to mark the 50th anniversary of Pride and to commemorate the events surrounding the Stonewall uprising. In June 1969, a police raid at the Stonewall Inn catalyzed a movement that would reshape LGBTQ+ visibility, rights, and culture for generations.
The image is informed by the painted crosswalk on Christopher Street, directly outside the Stonewall Inn, translating its striped geometry into a typographic form that reads through motion and perspective. Conceived as an act of remembrance, the cover situates Pride not as abstraction, but as something grounded in place and public space. Following publication, the artwork was released as a limited edition of 50 signed and numbered 24 × 36 inch archival prints, which sold out, with proceeds donated to The LGBT Community Center in New York City.
